“An Opposition in All Things”

Jana Reiss

This is one of the most beloved doctrines within Mormonism: there must be an opposition in all things. If we have not seen evil, we cannot recognize what is good; if we’ve never experienced darkness, we will not appreciate the glory of God’s light. This essential dualism is repeated some verses later in the story of Adam and Eve (verse 15).
