“A Broken Heart and a Contrite Spirit”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Nephi trusts in the Lord and acknowledged humbly his own personal weakness and total dependence upon the Lord. As we submit our will to that of the Father and cultivate “a broken heart and a contrite spirit” (2 Nephi 2:7; compare 2 Nephi 4:32. Ether 4:15, D&C 20:37), we too are supported and strengthened by the Lord. On the other hand, when we harden our hearts and rebel against the prophets, we fail to trust in the Lord and subject ourselves to the ultimate consequence of sin—separation from God.
