“Instructed Sufficiently: By the Law No One is Justified - Holy Messiah”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Heavenly Father makes known His plan of salvation and exaltation in sufficient detail to enable us, through obedience, to come home to Him and His Son once again. From the days of Adam onward this has been the case: “And thus the Gospel began to be preached, from the beginning, being declared by holy angels sent forth from the presence of God, and by his own voice, and by the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Moses 5:58). However, even though we are instructed sufficiently concerning the heavenly commandments and the laws of God, and even though we strive in all sincerity to live up to these commandments and laws, we are imperfect. By our mortal nature we fall short of the mark. It takes more than what we can bring to bear on our own. It takes a Redeemer, full of grace and truth, to be our Advocate. It takes the Atonement of the Lamb of God to lift us beyond our mortal capabilities, that we might be “perfect in Christ” (Moroni 10:32). Redemption comes only through our Savior Jesus Christ. Those who believe in Him and who come forth with a broken heart and contrite spirit and repent, enduring to the end, will be saved.

Let us, like Lehi, teach our children and posterity more about the Atonement. Clearly, it is instructive that Lehi focuses on the subject of the Atonement in his final discourse and exhortation to Jacob and his brothers.
