“Blessing, Blessed”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Lehi bestows blessings upon his sons and members of his circle (such as Zoram, former servant of Laban) very much in keeping with the pattern reflected in the patriarchal blessings given by Jacob (Israel) to his twelve sons and their posterity (see Genesis 49). In our day the Lord has called patriarchs to give blessings of personal revelation to worthy members of the Church. Those who seek such blessings learn thereby of their declared lineage in the house of Israel through which great blessings will flow. They are often informed of special gifts granted to them by Heavenly Father and given counsel and warnings about proper conduct. In addition, a worthy father can give a father’s blessing to his sons and daughters at important milestones of their lives, calling forth upon their heads special blessings and gifts that will guide their footsteps.
