“Observe the Statutes and the Judgments of the Lord”

Brant Gardner

Lehi continues his exhortation to his frequently wayward sons. These introductory remarks are generic, but his later blessings/exhortations are specific. At this point, however, “you” is plural, meaning those of his sons and extended family who have questioned Yahweh’s will and rebelled against it.

Although Lehi is talking about his own family, he articulates the desire of all righteous parents that their children will “observe the statutes and the judgments of the Lord.” Again, like all righteous parents, Lehi’s concern for his children has been “the anxiety of my soul from the beginning.”
