“It Meaneth Us in the Days to Come”

Brant Gardner

Nephi partially requotes Isaiah 49:22, and explains its explicit application to his own family—“and it meaneth us in the days to come”—even while it also includes the rest of the house of Israel. He wants them to understand that this prophecy will be fulfilled both temporally and spiritually, for them and for far-off Israel. His intense personal identification in this text is underscored in his request that Jacob use it as a sermon text. (See commentary accompanying 2 Nephi 6:6–7.)
