Feed with Their Own Flesh, Drunken with Their Own Blood

K. Douglas Bassett

Isa. 49:26; 2 Ne. 6:18

“Perhaps the depraved condition of the ancient Nephites is descriptive of those wicked ones of the future who will ‘be drunken with their own blood’: ‘They have lost their love, one towards another; and they thirst after blood and revenge continually.’ (Moroni 9:5). The carnage among the wicked may be such that they resort to cannibalism both to satisfy their physical hunger and to demonstrate their depravity. Once again we look to the past for a prototype of this abominable behavior: ‘They did murder them in a most cruel manner … and after they have done this, they devour their flesh like unto wild beasts, because of the hardness of their hearts; and they do it for a token of bravery.’ (Moroni 9:10.)” (Hoyt W. Brewster, Jr., Isaiah Plain and Simple, pp. 203-204)
