“Lift Up Thine Eyes Round About and Behold All These Gather Themselves Together”

W. Cleon Skousen

Then a great multitude will come in upon the land. This probably refers to the coming of the ten tribes from the north. Suddenly, as it were, those who were persecuted as a minority will become an overwhelming majority. These newcomers will bring great honor and prestige to these afflicted Saints.

19. For thy waste and thy desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants; and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away.

These multitudes of returning Israelites will be so numerous that they will occupy many cities which have been destroyed and also the desolated places.

20. The children whom thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the first, shall again in thine ears say: The place is too strait for me; give place to me that I may dwell.

These vast numbers of newcomers will fill up the desolated places, and then they will need even more room as they continue pouring down from the north. They will ask the Israelites who are already dwelling in America to help them find a place to live.
