Application to Israel: Yahweh lets Israel know that its past afflictions have been allowed because of its stiffneckedness. Because it was slow to listen, Yahweh allowed Israel to suffer the natural consequences of powerful events.
Application to Nephi’s audience: If Laman and Lemuel had ears to hear, this verse should have stung them, but likely they did not and missed its application to them.
