“What Was Found in the Land of Promise”

Monte S. Nyman

Note that Lehi’s party “went forth upon the land” after they landed (v. 23 above). They also journeyed in the wilderness “upon the promised land” (v. 25). How far they went, or for how long, is not stated in either case, but having spoken of their eight years in the wilderness in similar general terms, it could have been extensive. The finding of gold, silver, and copper may be a clue to their early travels. Where are all three of these metals found in the same area? Perhaps they were found in separate areas, but this would extend the distances of their travel. We are not reading a geography book, and must be cautious in drawing conclusions.
