This was the first name given to America, on the landing of Lehi and his colony. It was one of the names by which Palestine was known in the Old Testament, because of God's promise to Abraham: "In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates." (1 Ne. 2:20) The very name was a constant reminder to the descendants of Lehi of their obligation to keep the commandments of God.
