“Ye Were Past Feeling”

Brant Gardner

Narrative: This verse continues the devastating condemnation of Laman and Lemuel. Even seeing an angel has not changed them.

Scripture: The Lord’s efforts to speak to us must be matched by our ability to hear. When we harden our hearts and steel ourselves against the pricks of the Spirit, we are unable to “feel his words.” As with Laman and Lemuel, the Lord may sometimes shout at us “like unto the voice of thunder.” Still, with the brothers every motion toward repentance is a temporary gesture. The human ability to rationalize and deny is amazing.
