“He Beheld Upon the Ground a Round Ball of Curious Workmanship”

W. Cleon Skousen

Lehi and his little band had been camped in the valley of Lemuel for what appears to have been many months, so it must have come as a surprise when the Lord told Lehi during the night to prepare to break camp the next morning and head out into the wilderness. Of course Lehi was surrounded on three sides by regions of wilderness. Which way would they go? What a blessing to suddenly have the Lord give them a compass which would show him the way. It was called the Liahona. It was a miracle compass with one spindle actually pointing the direction which they should go. However we discover that the purpose of the other spindle was quite different We will learn about that spindle a little later.
