“In Them Shall Be Written My Gospel”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
The Book of Mormon contains the “fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ” (D&C 20:9). First of all, it contains a record of a people who enjoyed the blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Second, within its pages is contained the most perfect presentation of the gospel (the message that Christ came into the world to atone for the sins of the world) and of the principles of that gospel (faith, repentance, baptism, the gift of the Holy Ghost, endurance to the end, resurrection, and judgment—3 Nephi 27:13-21; D&C 76:40-42) of any scriptural record now available. The Book of Mormon does not contain-nor does it claim to do so-the fulness of gospel doctrine; there is no mention within our published version, for example, of eternal marriage or degrees of glory. Rather, its stated purpose is to bring men and women to Christ, to center their attention in the God of Israel, and to lay stress upon those patterns of living and works of righteousness which evidence one’s Christian commitment.
