“Much of the Lord's Gospel to Come to the Gentiles”

Monte S. Nyman

The angel identifies the remnant of Israel who will be visited in judgment as the seed of Nehi’s father. This was implied above. Another blessing to come to the Gentiles is the coming forth of the Book of Mormon. It was hid up and meant to come forth “by the gift and power of the Lamb” (v. 35). This was accomplished through the angel Moroni and is described in Joseph Smith’s History. Those who read the Book of Mormon with real intent will understand why the Doctrine and Covenants calls it “a marvelous work and a wonder” (see D&C 4:1; 6:1–2; 11:1–2; 12:1–2; 14:1–2).

It did come under the direction of the Lord. It does contain [Christ’s] gospel, [Christ’s] rock, and [Christ’s] salvation (v. 36). The ultimate purpose of the Book of Mormon is to establish Zion and to bring about salvation in the everlasting kingdom of the Lamb. These blessings shall come through the gift and power of the Holy Ghost (v. 37). Isaiah’s words will thus be fulfilled: “How beautiful upon the mountains [of Zion] are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace [the word of God]; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! (Isaiah 52:7).
