Was the corruption of the Bible accidental?

Thomas R. Valletta

“If the foregoing words say anything, they say that the alteration of the text was deliberate and intentional and extensive and for unholy and wicked purposes. It is plain also that the corruption of the text was not simply a matter of interpretation, or an awkward rendering of a few passages. It was not simply ‘lost in the translation.’ The words of the angel specify that ‘many plain and precious things are taken away’ from and ‘out of’ the ‘book of the Lamb of God’ (1 Nephi 13:26, 28, 29, 32, 34)” (Matthews, “Establishing the Truth of the Bible,” 205).
