“Contains the Covenants of the Lord”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
The old testament in its pristine purity, contained the covenants of the Lord made to his chosen servants from the days of Adam to the ministry of Malachi. No doubt the original documents of those covenants and promises read much like our present book of Abraham in the Pearl of Great Price, wherein God promised Abraham the blessings of (1) a land of inheritance; (2) the gospel; (3) the priesthood; and (4) eternal life, the continuation of the family unit in eternity (see Abraham 2:8-11, 19). In the dispensation of the fulness of times, these covenants have been renewed with the descendants of Abraham through the instrumentality of Joseph Smith. All who enter into the temples of God and receive the new and everlasting covenant of marriage become heirs to all of the blessings of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. (see D&C 86:8-10; D&C 110:12; D&C 124:58; D&C 132:30-32.)
