The Book of Mormon leaves little doubt as to the position of the prophets with regard to the founding and destiny of America: that God-who opposes slavery and captivity-“took sides” in the Revolutionary War; that he aided the American colonists in their struggle against Great Britain, the home of the “mother Gentiles”; and that the land of America-the site of sacred occurrences from Eden to the final Adam-ondi-Ahman-has a glorious destiny to perform, an integral part in that plan of the Eternal Father for the blessing of mankind.
