Who would have guessed that Cortez in Mexico and Pizarro in Peru would conquered millions of natives with less than 1,000 Spanish soldiers. Much of this was due to the fact that the Aztecs and Incas both knew that once upon a time a fair God had governed the people in America and for several hundred years they had lived in peace and prosperity.

Then the fair God had gone away but said he would return. The Aztecs and Incas had mistaken Cortez and Pizarro for the fair God and had treated them accordingly until it was too late. The same thing happened in Hawaii when Captain James Cook came from England in 1778 and was mistaken for the traditional fair god.
