“Rod of Iron”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

The symbolism of the rod of iron as the word of God is among the most memorable of all gospel metaphors. It is mentioned seven times in the Book of Mormon, but also occurs in other sacred scriptures, for example, in the book of Revelation: “And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God” (Revelation 19:15).
