“Knowest Thou the Meaning of the Tree Which Thy Father Saw?”

K. Douglas Bassett

John 3:16-17; Kisses at the Window, Bassett, pp. 37-42

“The tree laden with fruit was a representation of the love of God which he sheds forth among all the children of men. The Master himself, later in his earthly ministry, explained to Nicodemus how that great love was manifested. Said he: ‘For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoseoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life’; and then the Master added: ‘For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved’ (John 3:16-17).” (Harold B. Lee, Conference Report, Apr. 1971, p. 90)
