“The Bands Were Loosed”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

Jeremiah was cast into a deep dungeon, a water cistern in which the water had nearly all evaporated and left a residue of mud and slime. He was rescued by an Ethiopian eunuch by the name of EbedMelech, who acted on secret instructions from the king, Zedekiah, but he was kept in prison until the fall of the city.

Nephi was rescued by direct intervention of the Lord, in answer to prayer. The cords fell from his hands and from his feet, and he could once more stand forth and plead with his brothers. They were still angry. But a daughter of Ishmael and also one of his sons who had formerly opposed Nephi, changed their attitude, when they saw his miraculous deliverance. Nephi now had a majority on his side, and his brethren humbly apologized for their wickedness. Thus the incident ended. The little company soon reached the Valley of Lemuel and celebrated its homecoming, as on a former occasion, with sacrifice and burnt offerings. (1 Ne. 5:9)
