Memories: The Lord Is in Charge

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

In 1 Nephi 4:6, Nephi says, “And I was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do.” This doesn’t mean that Nephi hasn’t studied or prayed or worked. He has already been righteous up to this point. But at this moment he doesn’t know what to do. I often spoke with missionaries about this, saying to them:

You will probably have the same thing happen to you out in the field. You’ll say, “Oh Father,” and at that moment when you pray, “What should I do?” then all of a sudden the words will come. You’ll find yourself saying, “And by the power of the Spirit, I testify to you, Mr. Brown, that what I have said is true, and I know it’s true because the Lord bore witness to me that it’s true.” You will bear your testimony with power, and then you’ll wonder, “How did I do that?” Remember, the Lord is in charge!
