“Exceedingly Sorrowful”

Brant Gardner

Narrative: Here is a major turning point in the narrative. It is easy to understand Laman’s and Lemuel’s discouragement, especially given their probable initial lack of enthusiasm for the task. Nephi is communicating the tensions of the journey. He includes himself in the description of being “exceedingly sorrowful” but does not place himself among those (“my brethren”) who would abandon the task.
