“Go and Do, Prepare a Way”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

These words of Nephi continue to echo down through time as an inspiration to all who follow the Lord. As we seek to do His will with an attitude of faith and trust, neither doubting nor murmuring, the Lord provides a way. Blessings that are withheld from those who murmur will flow unimpeded to the obedient. President Thomas S. Monson explains this: “I think of the decision of Laman and Lemuel, when they were commanded to go and obtain the plates of Laban. What does the record indicate that they did? They murmured and said, ‘This is a hard thing which we have been commanded to do,’ and they decided not to obey that commandment—and they lost the blessing. But Nephi, when he received that commandment, responded with that beautiful declaration: ‘I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded,’ and he did; and he received the coveted prize that comes through obedience” (Be Your Best Self [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1979], 127).
