Lehi and his family were more than three days “ journey from Jerusalem. The Lord commanded Lehi (again in an inspired dream) to have his sons return to Jerusalem to obtain the plates of brass from Laban. It appears that Laban was a relative of Lehi’s—at least he was of the same lineage (1 Nephi 5:16), and may have been the member of the family responsible for keeping the genealogical records.”
