His Sons Sought to Kill Lehi

K. Douglas Bassett

1 Ne. 16:35-39

“How was it possible that sons could seek to take the life of their father? What must have happened for family members to seek the overthrow and death of their own flesh and blood? Simply stated, the wicked take the truth to be hard (1 Nephi 16:1-2), too hard to handle. Wickedness and corruption know no family. When iniquity abounds, the love of men waxes cold (D&C 45:27; Joseph Smith-Matthew 1:10, 30). Laman and Lemuel, like their spiritual counterparts in Jerusalem, would not receive the message, even if the messenger was their own father.” (R. Millet & J. F. McConkie, Doctrinal Commentary on the Book of Mormon, 1:32)
