Evidence: Altar of Stones

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

From ancient times, Semitic (Hebrew and Arabic) sanctuaries featured an altar or pillar for the offering of sacrifices. A pile of stones often served this purpose, and Lehi’s “altar of stones” would have complied with the ancient law specifying that the altar must be made of uncut stones. (See Echoes, 470.)
