“Did Pitch Their Tents in a Place Which Was Called Ogath”

W. Cleon Skousen

Nevertheless the army of Coriantumr raged against the army of Shiz and beat them so that they fled southward and did pitch their tents in a place called Ogath. Meanwhile, Coriantumr seems to have made a proposal to Shiz. Obviously this genocidal war would be fought down to the last man and so there appears to have been some kind of agreement that the two armies would gather their people together from every part of the land and then fight one another to the death. It was their intent to mobilize every human being in the land northward so the hatred between them would be settled once and for all. The time limit appears to have been four years. It is amazing that Shiz had that much patience.

In verse 11 we are told that Coriantumr chose as the gathering place for his supporters the hill Ramah. Moroni says this is the same hill where his father Mormon had hidden up the Nephite records to the Lord some eight or nine hundred years after the annihilation of the Jaredites. In fact the chapter heading for Ether 15 describes the hill Ramah as being identical with the Hill Cumorah and both hills appear to have been familiar to Moroni.
