As Coriantumr reflected on the words of Ether and contemplated the mammoth slaughter that had taken place among the people, a degree of repentance touched Coriantumr's heart. He therefore wrote a letter to Shiz which set forth a rather generous proposal. He said he was willing to surrender to Shiz the entire kingdom of the Jaredites if Shiz would forsake the war and establish peace throughout the land. But there was not the smallest iota of repentance in the satanic cult to which Shiz belonged. He wanted to avenge his brother's death and would only give up the policy of total war if Coriantumr would surrender and allow Shiz to slay him. It was as though Coriantumr was dealing with Satan himself.
