At this critical juncture the Lord had Ether make a rather amazing proposal to Coriantumr. The king was told that if he would repent the Lord would allow him to have the whole kingdom and the people would be spared. However, Ether said that if Coriantumr did not repent, there would be such a slaughter among the people that Coriantumr would be the only survivor of the entire Jaredite empire. In fact, he would see the land taken over by another people, who would replace the Jaredites and bury Coriantumr after his death.
