Moronis Definition of Faith

Daniel H. Ludlow

The Book of Mormon contains at least two classic definitions of faith. Alma the younger defined faith as follows: ". . . faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true." (Alma 32:21.) Moroni's definition is ". . . faith is things which are hoped for and not seen." (Ether 12:6.) These definitions of faith are somewhat similar to the definition of Paul: ". . . faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1.)
