“Wax Strong”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

After their arrival at the promised land the sons and daughters of Jared, his brother, and their friends began to multiply in the land, wax strong, and prosper. In course of time, as many families developed, there arose a desire to organize themselves into a kingdom; and they requested of the patriarch fathers, Jared and Mahonri Moriancumer, that one of their sons be anointed king. Several of the sons that were asked refused in turn to serve as king, and their fathers would not compel them into such service. Finally, Orihah, son of Jared, agreed to be anointed king. He was a righteous, humble, and faithful leader, and under his reign the people prospered both spiritually and temporally.
