“They Are No More; and Great Has Been Their Fall”

Again Moroni asserts the complete annihilation of his people, but again it contradicts his statement that, twenty-one years after the battle, Nephites still existed (Moro. 1:1). By saying “they are no more,” Moroni was talking about the collapse of the polity, culture, and civilization. His statement, “great has been their fall,” clarifies that he is contrasting their current (political) state to the glory days of the Nephite nation.
