“We Had Gathered in All the Remainder of Our People Unto the Land of Cumorah”

W. Cleon Skousen

Mormon must have sent messengers out all along the line of the Nephite stragglers to meet at the foot of hill Cumorah and there they would set up a vast camp all about this hill. It is interesting that Cumorah is described in being in the land of many waters. This is Book of Mormon language for lakes and rivers which certainly describes the New England region. It was in this place that Mormon said he hoped he could gain some advantage over the Lamanites. But so far as we know, Mormon had never been to this place. Perhaps he was relying on the judgment of his reconnaissance soldiers or he may have had a revelation from the Lord. It was now 385 A.D., which means Mormon had taken over whole four years to gather his decimated hosts of Nephites into this one place.
