Apparently Mormon did not have much time to write on the plates when a horde of Lamanites raided the Nephites and drove them to the north once more. But Mormon finally halted the retreat and mobilized them at the city of Shem. He also gathered in as many of the civilian population as possible to prevent them from being slaughtered.
