“Even As I Am”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
See commentary on 3 Nephi 12:48. The specific context for this phrase is the matter of judgment: the Lord is directing the Twelve to judge as he would judge. By extension, of course, the doctrine is perfectly appropriate that we should be even as he is. He is our guide. He is our model. He is our exemplar. True Saints of God settle for nothing less as a standard for their teachings or their actions. He is, as Joseph Smith taught, the prototype of a saved being (Lectures on Faith 7:16).
