“United in Mighty Prayer and Fasting”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

Profound things happen when the Saints of God unite in genuine prayer, accompanied by fasting. Fasting is a conduit of power; it connects the disciples, ancient and modern, with the powers of heaven. Anciently, the prophet Isaiah described in exulting language some of the blessings that flow from fasting:

“Then shall thy light rise in obscurity … :

“And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not” (Isaiah 58:10–11).
