“Break Bread and Give Unto the Multitude”

Brant Gardner

After the experience with the twelve that emphasized their importance to the larger community, the Savior now ministers to the entire congregation. Those present on the first day had participated in the sacrament. Now new arrivals had the same opportunity of partaking of the sacrament and making the same covenants.

Culture: Like the previous experience with the sacrament, the “bread” and “wine” would have consisted of items available in Mesoamerica. (See commentary accompanying 3 Nephi 18:1.)
