“And He Did Smile Upon Them”

Brant Gardner

The Savior’s smile may have been more than simple recognition of the twelve’s faith, or it may have been a more definite blessing or other action that effected the oneness for which he had prayed. To “smile upon” someone (a phrase unique to scriptures received through Joseph Smith) was to show them favor (Jacob 2:13; 3 Ne. 19: 25, 30; D&C 84:101; Moses 7:43).
