“They Desired That the Holy Ghost Should Be Given Unto Them”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

The first thing the Twelve taught the people was to kneel down and pray to the Father in the name of Jesus. And the foremost thing the people prayed for—that which they most desired—was to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Because Jesus would soon leave them, they wanted the gift of constant companionship of one of the Gods while in this frail existence far from their heavenly home.
