“Hich Is Right”

Jana Reiss

The phrase “which is right” qualifies the notion that people will simply receive whatever they pray for. Mormons feel that so-called prosperity theology, which teaches people to expect whatever they pray for—whether it be a luxurious house or a job promotion—is wrongheaded. If they are not praying for righteous things (typically defined as those things that will bless others and serve God’s kingdom), then they are not praying as the Savior instructed. People have no right to expect blessings that will merely further selfish impulses, no matter how great their faith.
