“They Should Bring Forth Some Bread and Wine Unto Him”

Jana Reiss

In the New Testament, Jesus institutes the ritual that Christians call the Last Supper, the Eucharist, or Holy Communion on the eve of his arrest and trial. In the Book of Mormon, the event isn’t shadowed by an impending betrayal; Jesus simply shares the wine and the bread and instructs them to follow his example, making sure that the ritual (which Mormons call “the sacrament”) is performed by one who has authority.
