“This Is the Land”

Jana Reiss

The Savior clarifies that “this is the land” of this tribe’s inheritance. In the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible, frequent mention is made of the exact land each tribe would inherit as its portion. (The exception to this rule is the tribe of Levi, whose members were appointed as priests over the people and did not have a designated homeland for themselves.) Here, the Savior continues introducing the Nephites to the concept of their “tribe” by following ancient precedent in apportioning them a particular land.
