“Blessed Are All They Who Are Persecuted for My Name’s Sake”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

How happy we will be for the blessing of being persecuted. For this life is only but a moment, and then we shall be granted joy in heaven. As we endure trials for the Lord and His kingdom, we sacrifice and become more empathetic. As with Joseph Smith, tribulation will be for us, also, but a small moment as compared to the eternities (see D&C 121:7), and we shall inherit the kingdom of heaven. We can never do too much for the Lord and his kingdom. “Therefore, rejoice in our afflictions, by which you are perfected and through which the Captain of our Salvation was perfected also. Let your hearts and the hearts of all the Saints be comforted with you, and let them rejoice exceedingly, for great is our reward in heaven, for so the wicked persecuted the prophets which were before us” (The First Presidency; Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Heber C. Kimball, comp. R. B. Thompson [Nauvoo, Ill.: Robinson and Smith, 1840], 66–67).
