“Behold, I Am Jesus Christ”

Brant Gardner

To clear up any possible confusion, Jesus identifies himself, following up on the Father’s proclamation of identity. He is “Jesus Messiah.” “Jesus Christ” represents Joseph Smith’s understanding of the best wording for the concept on the plate. “Christ” is a Greek title, the equivalent of the Hebrew “Messiah.” Jesus announces himself by name and title to these people. They have been awaiting the Messiah, and Jesus is declaring that he is the one whom they have awaited. The fulfillment of hundreds of years of prophecy now stands before them, miraculously descended from heaven.
