“I Came Unto My Own”

Brant Gardner

“I came unto my own” refers to the Savior’s mortal ministry in the Old World. The Nephite scriptures indicated that he would be born there: his lineage, and therefore “his own,” were there (Mosiah 3:5–9, esp. v. 9). Yahweh-Messiah declares that all scriptures that have predicted him (meaning, his first coming) have now been fulfilled. Even scriptures referring to the second coming have had a typological fulfillment; in a very real sense, the Messiah appears in power in the New World, accompanied by a purging of the wicked, thus fulfilling, in a sense, all of the predictions of the Messiah’s coming.
