Jesus Christ is the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth

Daniel H. Ludlow

While the body of the Savior lay in the tomb on the eastern continent, he spoke to the righteous Nephite survivors on the western continent and introduced himself with these words: “Behold, I am Jesus Christ the Son of God. I created the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are.” (3 Nephi 9:15.) The concept that Jesus Christ created the heavens and the earth was taught earlier in the Book of Mormon by Samuel the Lamanite when he identified the Savior as “Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and of earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning.” (Helaman 14:12.)

Other scriptures also teach that Jesus Christ created both the heavens and the earth. In Moses 1:33 God the Father (Eloheim) states: “And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten.”

Also, in the Doctrine and Covenants the Savior introduces himself to the members of the Church in this dispensation as follows: “Hearken, O ye people of my church, to whom the kingdom has been given; hearken ye and give ear to him who laid the foundation of the earth, who made the heavens and all the hosts thereof, and by whom all things were made which live, and move, and have a being.” (D&C 45:1.)
