Both the printer’s manuscript and the 1830 edition have the preposition up here in 3 Nephi 9:5 (although initially Oliver Cowdery accidentally wrote the up twice). The 1837 edition accidentally omitted the up. The 1908 RLDS edition restored it, but the LDS text has retained the 1837 reading. In this passage there are three other occurrences of this expression, and they have each maintained the up:
