It is typical of human nature to have the more radical fringe take it upon themselves to abandon the law of Moses when so many sensational events seem to harbinger a new religion. It must have been a real challenge to Nephi to get these people to realize that the birth of Christ did not cancel out the law of Moses and that its purpose was not yet fulfilled.
